About the Project
HiNeon.com is a specialized e-commerce platform dedicated to custom LED neon signage. In order to provide a more personalized shopping experience, I was commissioned as a Custom Product Builder specialist to create a way for users to design their own signs online. Consequently, I developed two advanced custom builder plugins that successfully bridged the gap between a customer’s imagination and a final purchase.
The Technical Challenge: Real-Time Customization
Designing a custom product requires a seamless flow of data. First and foremost, the challenge was to create a visual preview that updated instantly as users changed text, fonts, and colors. Moreover, this visual data had to be tied directly to a dynamic pricing engine that accounted for material costs and character counts.
1. Advanced ACF Pro Integration
To solve this, I leveraged ACF Pro to create a highly flexible backend structure. Furthermore, I developed custom logic to ensure that every choice made by the user—from font style to backing type—was captured accurately. As a result, the administrative team can now manage thousands of variations without manual intervention.
2. Real-Time Pricing Engine
In addition to the visual preview, the system needed to calculate costs on the fly. Specifically, I wrote a custom JavaScript engine that calculates pricing based on length and complexity. Therefore, the real-time pricing feature eliminated “sticker shock” at checkout, which consequently significantly increased the conversion rate for custom orders.
